Commissioner Reding has proposed that EU member states initiate national digitisation schemes to preserve and make their heritage available online.

“The internet is the most powerful new tool we have had for storing and sharing information since the Gutenberg press, so let’s use it to make the material in Europe’s libraries and archives accessible to all,” Reding said. Adding that making Europe’s cultural heritage available digitally will give Europe’s “artists, entrepreneurs and innovators the raw material that they need. ”

O realce é meu, e assinala onde a Srª Comissária afirma o seu desejo de ver todas as bibliotecas e arquivos da Europa com conteúdos abertos e acessíveis na Internet… acha ela que a “herança cultural da Europa, uma vez digitalizada e ao dispôr de 5 biliões de humanos… dará aos artitas, empreendedores e inovadores europeus (?só aos europeus?) toda a matéria prima de que necessitam”…
Parece-me que a profissão de arquivista foi legislada extinta!
